Llanilar Agricultural Show

The Llanilar Show is held on the second Saturday of August each year and attracts entries for field, produce, arts and crafts from around the county. Though the Show is primarily an agricultural and horticultural event there is an increasingly popular dog show competition which attracts a growing number of the public, as well as a show jumping competition.

Message from the President

Croeso i Sioe Llanilar 2023!

Following the two-year Covid hiatus, it was great to see the Llanilar Show back up and running last year. It was impossible to hire a marquee at a sensible price in 2022, and Show committee members worked very hard to find an alternative way to allow the Show to go ahead.

This year we are back to normal (I hope!) with a marquee on the field. In 2019 we had the tail end of a storm and last year it was seriously hot. This year it is our turn for perfect weather! So please save the date, bring your family along and tell your friends. Some visitors last year were blown away; they had never been to anything like it! It wasn’t just the farm animals but also the tent entries that really impressed them, especially the children’s. Be sure to put in an entry (or several) and make sure your children do too; there’s a secret cook, gardener, master craftsman (or woman!), winemaker or photographer in all of us. I’m practising my baking already, and the feedback is good!

I am sure everyone will have a very enjoyable day.

Message from the Chairwoman

Croeso i Sioe Llanilar 2023!

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you once more to the Llanilar Show on the fields of Castle Hill. This will be my last show as chairwoman of the Show committee and great is my thanks to members of the committee who give so much of their time, and efforts, during the year to ensure a successful day.

This year, William and Wendy Lloyd, Y Facwn will be the Show’s honoured guests – both have been very supportive of the Show (and also to me in my role as Chairwoman) for many years. Wendy was secretary (along with Ada Rhosgoch), and William was chairman for many years, and they both continue to be keen collectors in the Llangwyryfon area.

The 2022 Show was a scorching hot one, one that will stay in the memory for years to come. The effects of that dry summer are still felt today as I write this, in the middle of March, as the stock’s winter feed ends earlier than usual. The agricultural industry continues to face difficult challenges but events, like local shows, provides an opportunity for us to get together and take pride in our products and celebrate our way of life.
We are currently developing the Show’s new website with the hope that this will facilitate and modernise several elements of the organisational and administrative work. A big thank you to Rosemary Tudor and the crew who helped her with these developments – this is an exciting time in the Show’s history.

Thank you to the collectors, stewards and judges for your willingness to support the Show.

I wish you all a prosperous day and, once again, thank you for your support.

Ann Lloyd
